Wait, what? Why did a 4L80 need to come out????
I expect that with a 4L60. Although my 4L65 has yet to do me wrong in 13 years *knocks wood*

4l80e’s can go anywhere from 150k to 250k miles. Mine just started shifting hard intermittently at 165k. Might get another 30k out of it.

I’m at 155k miles. The truck came without a brake controller and without a single scratch on the receiver hitch at 130k miles, so I’m thinking it led a pretty easy life before I got it. I’m really hoping the trans lasts another 100k. So far, my luck with Chevies has gone like this: as long as they’re neglected, they’ll have issues but they’ll still be reliable. Once you start fixing stuff, they fall the fuck apart. Here’s hoping I can break that cycle with this ‘ Burban.

I was trying to diagnose a rattle the other day and when I crawled underneath to listen while it was running I noticed the puddle of oil had grown to about 4" across in the < 5 minutes it was running. I also figured the noise was probably a cracked flex plate, but it turned out to just be 2 loose torque converter bolts (at least that’s the only issue I found while disassembling).

It seems like GMT800s didn’t have anywhere near the issues with the 4L6xE as the GMT400s did. I still have trust issues with half-ton GM trucks, though.

Definitely time to fix that.

Mine has been incredibly reliable. The only failure I've ever had since new, was last year when I popped a brake line due to rust.

After spending a bunch of time under this thing lately, I can totally see how they rust so badly in salty conditions. There's not much rust prevention in use on these!

No. No there isn't.
